PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana is a pioneering national initiative launched with an outlay of over ₹75,000 crore to provide free electricity to 1 crore households across India. The scheme provides substantial direct central subsidies to homeowners installing grid-connected rooftop solar systems: ₹30,000 for 1 kW capacity, ₹60,000 for 2 kW capacity, and ₹78,000 for systems of 3 kW and higher. Low-interest collateral-free bank loans up to ₹6 lakh are also available.

Eligibility

  • Bank account passbook or cancelled cheque (Aadhaar linked for direct subsidy credit)
  • Proof of roof ownership / residential property document

How to Apply

  1. 1Register on the national portal (pmsuryaghar.gov.in) by selecting your State, Electricity Distribution Company (DISCOM), and Consumer Account Number.
  2. 2Submit the online application for Rooftop Solar installation along with sanctioned load details.
  3. 3Receive technical feasibility approval online from your local DISCOM.
  4. 4Select an empanelled vendor registered on the portal and get the solar plant installed using DCR-compliant solar modules.
  5. 5Submit plant installation details and apply for Net Metering inspection.
  6. 6Following DISCOM inspection and commissioning certificate issuance, submit bank details and cancelled cheque on the portal to receive the subsidy directly within 30 days.
